HELP UPGRADE CLAY PARK WITH $150,000
The Colina del Sol Recreation Council, which oversees Clay Park, has formed a subcommittee and is exploring options for disbursing the $150,000 donated by Carmel Partners for enhancing Clay Park.  The subcommittee includes two Rolando residents (Denise Armijo and David Clarke).

The subcommitee has discussed ideas for improvements, constraints and the need for rough costs in order to set realistic goals. It recognized that the Clay sports field is owned by the school district and plans to change the field are not feasible.  It was agreed to try to minimize the need for administrative oversight which can eat up budget quickly.  Additionally, the subcommittee agreed to pursue donations of labor and/or materials to help ‘stretch’ the budget.

Current ideas for enhancements include addition of decomposed granite (D.G.) paths around the perimeter; addition of D.G. and exercise stations in the shrub areas of the linear park across the street; a possible shade structure near the tot lot; an entry plaza with permeable pavers or D.G., seating cubes, trees and an arbor at the west end in the underutilized shrub area; and additional shade trees throughout.

This process is open to all interested parties and your participation is wanted!  Colina del Sol Recreation Council meets the third Wednesday of odd numbered months at 6:30 PM at 5319 Orange Avenue.  If you are unable to make meetings, you may also send ideas or comments to Denise Armijo at  [email protected] or David Clarke at [email protected] .
